Astral Worlds

Coming soon this article in audio format

If you search for the word "astral" you will realize that it comes from the Greek word meaning "linked to a star" and it originally described the heavens of the Greeks and the abode of their gods. The concept of the astral world expanded in time to refer to what the ancients labelled as "ghost land," a realm inhabited by entities, ghostly spirits and highly developed angelic beings.

Under normal circumstances the limitations of our five physical senses keep us from having the ability to see into the astral world. The reason for this is believed to be because the astral world is made up of an energy that we cannot see, owing to the fact that it is vibrating at a higher rate than the vibrational energy that comprises the material world.

But you will discover ways to be able to perceive it other than through direct entry into it by the use of astral projection. There are well-trained occultist's and clairvoyants which have been able to do so all through the ages. The previous is the passive recipient of mental impressions, although these are generally fleeting and only moderately revealing.

Although if he or she is developed enough, the occultist can shift from material to astral perception by means of a conscious act of willpower, "just as the operator at the typewriter keyboard shifts from the lower case lettering to the capitals.

The perceiver will gaze right into a world that is simply as real as ours. Looking at it's geography, scenery, and inhabitants. Within the astral world there are even entire countries in addition to kingdoms. The astral world also has its own natural laws. It is subject to considerable and constant changes just as the physical world we live in is.

Some theorists who write on the topic of astral projection have speculated that the astral world is in truth a "rationalized fantasy world," a world of rudimentary energies that we form into beings, people as well as places through our own thought processes. In other words, the astral world is a real place but we create its manifestations in our imaginations.

Actually if you examine it, there probably is some fact to the suggestion. Certainly some of the sights and experiences reported by astral explorers sounds like they're thought projections.

But at the same time so many people have reported similar kinds of things in the astral realm, for instance, the testimonies of a countless number of Near Death Experience percipient say that we are able to logically conclude that it has its own independent, objective existence. Once you go into the astral plain, you can be sure you will observe certain things present.
The astral world has seven divisions.

The lowest and most material of these is called Avichi, a hellish environment in which souls are tortured with desires that cannot be fulfilled without the physical body. The souls of criminals and other depraved persons witness the activities of their counterparts on the physical realm and are driven to despair because they can no longer take part.

On their side of the astral border, as one writer puts it, can be described as dreary "astral atmosphere of pool rooms, gambling halls, race tracks, brothels and red-light districts" where these miserable souls congregate; these structures exist, alas, only as a symbolic back-drop; the functions such places fulfil on the physical plane are denied the inhabitants of Avichi.

The souls in Avichi don't suffer eternally. For many, the desires which have gone so long unsatisfied die away, suffering ceases and the soul moves up to a higher astral level. Those few incapable of change and moral improvement eventually are exhausted from the strain and descend into merciful oblivion.

Avichi is sometimes compared to the Christian hell, however it is actually more like purgatory, because through suffering sins are usually forgiven and put behind one.

It should be clear that relatively few people who enter the astral world will experience Avichi. The great majority of individuals will end up in one or the other of the following three divisions. (Avichi, the lowest of them, is considered the seventh division.)

The division you'll end up in relies upon the degree of your moral development.
